Psychologists tell us that there is no cure for this. Therefore, none of the penalties would work except death and life imprisonment. Castration only takes away the ability to reproduce, not the urge. (one thing about life imprisonment is that the other inmates usually kill pedophiles)

I study psychology, and know for a fact that there is a great deal of research that suggests a variety of different therapies for pedophilia. As for castration, it has been proven (not just correlated) to essentially "cure" pedophilia due to an absence of libido.

More than therapy is deserved for someone who would hurt a child. A lot more than therapy.
